Letterbox Delivery
So you’re thinking about doing a letterbox delivery but are not sure where to start. First off you need to look at what it is you are planning to advertise. Take the time to make sure you have your flyer or brochure up to scratch and focused on the target market you’re trying to engage.

An Attention Grabbing Headline is a Must for Letterbox Delivery

Make the most out of your delivery and get the attention of your reader by applying a great headline to your advert.  Whether you have 50% off widgets or a buy one, get one free offer, just think of yourself as the purchaser and ask yourself if it’s a good deal – does the headline make you sit up and take notice?

A Call to Action is Essential for any Advertising Especially Letterbox Delivery

Not sure what a “call to action” is?  It’s a way to move your customer to take action on your offer and not just put the advertising down and forget it.  It’s quite often a good idea to have a “limited time only”, or “while stocks last” deal.  This way there is a sense of urgency and you will have hungry buyers beating down the door.  So your call to action may be something like this – Call now and don’t miss out on this limited time offer.

I Searched High & Low…

This is something that has happened to me before which is highly frustrating.  I was interested in purchasing a product from a flyer I received in the mail, but low and behold I couldn’t find a phone number or website address on it, so I just gave up and threw it in the bin.  Make your contact details stand out straight after your call to action so people know where to find you.

Letterbox Delivery Targeting

Now you have your flyer or brochure sorted, it’s time to get to the actual letterbox delivery.  What you need to do now is find a company to get your fliers into letterboxes in areas that will be most relevant to your store, service or product.  For example  if you have a hair salon in Invercargill, you don’t want to be sending your fliers to Auckland addresses to get clients.  So your distribution company will give you a breakdown of relevant targeted areas.  There are also other various components in which you can target such as household income, number or ages of children, age of occupants, type of employment, and the list goes on.  Another example… You are selling walking sticks (I’m sure someone must do :) ) – and you want to target the over sixties that live in the North Island – no problem.  Why waste money on letterbox delivery advertising to young people!?

Some Q&A on Letterbox Delivery

Is there a minimum quantity I need to send? There is no minimum quantity you have to send but most companies have a minimum charge.  For instance at Pumpt Advertising, the client could send out 10 flyers if they were happy to pay the minimum charge. They can send just over 6,000 flyers for the current minimum charge.

Do I have to bundle the flyers myself? Flyers need to be bundled in 100s or 200s. So you can either do it yourself (fairly tedious if you have thousands) or the cheapest way is to get your printer to bundle at the time of printing, or of course you pay someone else to do it.

How much notice do I have to give to send out my flyers? Well obviously the more the better, but generally 10 working days is normal. There are other factors that need to be considered, for example the timeframe will depend on the type of distribution, the area you are looking at, when the stock will be ready etc.  And don’t forget that this doesn’t include design or print times.
